TIPS TO GET JOBS IN EXPORT/ IMPORT FIELD FOR FRESHMAN


Import/ export is an interesting field you should try. This job can give you more chance to apply the knowledge you learnt when you were in university into real situation. For import/ export staff, the salary is quite high compared with other jobs. Moreover, this job is highly appreciated in the society.

So, how to get jobs in this field? Basing on informoation updating from latest news in US, I will present some tips to get jobs in import and export:
1Knowledge
Incoterms are the compulsory knowledge you should remember when you apply this position. They are International commerce Terms which show clearly about responsibility of Buyers and sellers in Delivery and receiving goods or cargos. According to Incoterms 2010, there are now 11 terms applied. You can study more on the internet. They are presented clearly and fully.
When you become import/ export staff, you will have opportunity to work with many kinds of document such as CQ( Certificate of Quality), PO ( Purchase Order), Contract, Invoice (Tax Invoice, Commercial Invoice, Pro forma Invoice), PL( Packing List), BL( Bill of lading), AWB( airway bill). For bill, we have 2 kinds of bill: HAWB (house airway bill issued by forwarder) and MAWB (master airway bill issued by Sea- line or airlines. Especially, CO (Certificate of Original) - an important document for import and export activity.
International payment methods are easily seen in this activity. LC (Letter of credit) and T/T (Telegraphic transfer) are payment methods used popularly in International payment.
2English skill
English skill is also essential to import/ export staff. Import and Export are buying and selling goods from this country to another country. Therefore, English is common language and tool to exchange information between countries. Import/ export staff take responsibility to follow up the contract. They need to contact with suppliers and customers. I have 3 month experience interning in this field. I often write emails and contact with suppliers in other country through Skype. The only language we use when exchange information is English. You should communicate English Well and writing skill is important, too.
3Detail attention
Import/ export staff must be careful people. They have to pay attention to the details. After making contract, they review one more time to check the figure and information in the contract to make sure everything is correct. Mistakes are not accepted in this job because it will affect to many things and custom clearance. They do not to be hurry, but they need to be precise with small details.
